Getting Started

Configuring your [Basic] controls

To configure your controls in Gangsta Wars, first open Half-life. Then click the Custom Game button. If you installed Gangsta Wars correctly, you should see it in the list of Mods. Click it to highlight it, then click 'Activate'. You are now playing Gangsta Wars!

Joining a Gangsta Wars Server

To join a Gangsta Wars game, you first need to connect to a server running the mod. To find one, use programs such as GameSpy, or you can just use the built in server locator in Half-life. Then follow the instructions given to you by the program you are using and you should be all set.

Entering the Game

When you join a GangstaWars game, you will be prompted with several things that will determine which team you go onto and etc. Follow the instructions given at the time.

GW Controls

In addition to the regular Forward, Strafe, Jump, etc. commands that you will want to bind to play Gangsta Wars, there are a few new ones you will need to use. Using the Half-Life Controls menu, make sure that you have a key defined for each of the following functions:

USE

Though standard throughout Half-life, the USE key serves multiple purposes in Gangsta Wars. You will need it to buy weapons in the Protect the Don gameplay, and to signal friendly bots to your command. The USE key still works with buttons and doors etc.

QUICK MENU

In teamplay games only. This key is used to active an in-game Quick Menu/Command Menu, where you can send Quick Messages to other teammates, change your current team, buy ammunition and drop weapons for your teammates.

BOT MENU

This will allow you to add bots, remove bots, change the bots' skill, and enable/disable bot chatting and swearing.

WAYPOINT MENU

From here you will be able to add waypoints, remove waypoints, tag waypoints, and load/save waypoints. These are necessary for heightened bot intelligence in specific maps.

Game Modes

In Gangsta Wars, there are four modes of play and 2 alternit modes: Regular Deathmatch/Team Deathmatch, Capture The Stash, Gangbang Mode A/B and Protect The Don. Each game mode is determined by the map that is loaded.

If a map starts with gb_ in front of it then Gangbang Mode A/B will load.
If a map starts with gw_ in front of it then Deathmatch or TeamDeathmatch will load.
If a map starts with don_ in front of it then Protect The Don will load.
If a map starts with cts_ in front of it then Capture The Stash will load.

Here is a description to each game play.

Deathmatch

The deathmatch mode is pretty much the same as any other deathmatch, except we don't have health or armor chargers or long-jumps and things to that matter. Gangsta Wars Deathmatch is slightly faster paced than Half-Life's deathmatch, because of the more realistic damage system.

Team Deathmatch

Team Deathmatch is a bit like half life's but you pick one of two teams when you join server then select you player model.Team Deathmatch will on work on deathmatch maps

Capture The Stash

Capture the Stash is a Deathmatch based game mode, in the sence that every player fights for themself. When you spawn, you are given a random set of weapons that you must use (unlike deathmatch you don't pick them up throughout the map, although you can pick up fallen opponent's weapons). The idea of Capture the Stash is to capture the briefcase which is somewere inside the level. When (and if) you pick up the briefcase, you will be given two points (kills) every few seconds, and if you are low on health or armor, then they are also restored every few seconds. Aslong as you keep hold of the briefcase (and don't die), then the points, health and armor will keep coming to you.

Protect The Don

Protect the Don is a team based assassination type gameplay. Each team has a Don (selected randomly at the start of each round), which is the 'head' of the mafia, and needs to be kept alive. The idea is that if you are a team's Don, then stay low and keep alive until your team does it's duty and eliminates the other team's Don. If you are an ordinary Gangsta (hench-man), then your orders are to protect your team's Don whilst trying to kill the other teams Don.

Weapons are bought with cash from 'arms dealers', and cash can be made by either picking up a random stash (on the floor); selling unused, unwanted or dead opponents weapons; or by killing the other team's Don and winning the round. When killed, you will respawn as normal if you are a Gangsta (henchman), however you'll lose any weapons you were carrying. If you're a Don, and you are killed, then you'll loose half your cash and any weapons your carrying, then the round will restart and a new Don will be selected.

Gangbang Mode A

The idea behind Gangbang Mode A is fairly simple and strait forward: you spawn into an arena-type level (for example: a warehouse, closed off street, etc.), and then you will be given the choice of Nine different weapons. You select the weapon you wish to use (choose quick, because there is a set time for players to join the round), then you are given full health and armor and spawned into the map. From here on out it's everyman for themselves; watch your back because when you die, it's all over (until the next round comes along). The last man standing is the winner of the round and is given 10 points (frags). However, if the round time expires, then the round ends in a draw and no win points are awarded. Also we have added a bouns which will award you the player for gain kills with out dieing it will give you random armor, health, ammo and flashbangs, smoke grenades or molotov cocktail's and if you work hard anoth you will get a H&K PSG-1

Gangbang Mode B

The idea behind Gangbang Mode B is fairly simple and strait forward: you spawn into an arena-type level (for example: a warehouse, closed off street, etc.), and then you will be given the choice of Nine different weapons. You select the weapon you wish to use (choose quick, because there is a set time for players to join the round), then you are given full health and armor and spawned into the map. From here on out it's everyman for themselves; What makes mode b differnt from mode a is every one has lives the max lives is set by the server when you losse all lives you go in to observer till there is one man left there is no time limit in this mode. Also we have added a bouns which will award you the player for gain kills with out dieing it will give you random armor, health, ammo and flashbangs, smoke grenades or molotov cocktail's and if you work hard anoth you will get a H&K PSG-1

HUD

The Gangsta Wars HUD (Heads Up Display) changes a little depending on which game mode you're playing. By changing, it allows you to know the necessary information for each game mode. This is the list of all of the items in the Gangsta Wars HUD that aren't standard with Half-life.

Locational Damage Meter

This is the locational damage meter. The body in the picture represents you. Green on the meter represents good health; Yellow as a warning; and Red is a sign of near death. The more damage dealt to a specific part of the body will change the way you are able to perform (damaged legs make you move slower, damaged arms make it harder to aim). This meter is shown in all gameplay modes.

Cash Counter

This is your personal cash counter to let you know how much cash you have. This is only displayed in the Protect The Don gameplay mode.

Team Score Panel

This panel displays the current amount of rounds won by either team in the Protect the Don gameplay mode.

GangBang Info Panel Mode A

This is the GangBang Mode A information panel. It displays how many players are in the game, how many are still alive, and how much time there is left in the remaining round.

GangBang Info Panel Mode B

This is the GangBang Mode B information panel. It displays how many players are in the game, how many are still alive, and how many lives you have left.

Bots

The Bots in Gangstawars Beta 2.7 have been tweaked alot since beta 2.6. They are still the same bot but we have added a waypoint system in to help them naviagte around maps. We've improved alot of the original code such as Fighting code, stuck code, etc. We've also rewritten alot of code such as the skill system. Overall the bots featured in beta 2,7 are a major improvement compared to the older 2.6 bots.

Waypoints

Waypoints are one of the many new features in Gangsta Wars Beta 2.7. The waypoints are used to help the bots navigate better on larger & confusing maps. Every map included in the Gangsta Wars Beta 2.7 has waypoints already made for them. These can be removed and replaced with your own waypoints for that map. This can be easily achieved using the waypoint menu ( note : waypoints can only be added when mp_bots is set to "1" )..

Quick Menu

The Quick Menu/Command Menu (using the VGUI) can be a very helpful tool to you. Make sure you bind a key to it in the Controls menu! Using the Command Menu, you can use a variety of Team Commands that broadcasts a message to your entire team: a very useful thing to have instead of typing every time something happens.

You can also use the Command Menu to change your team, buy ammunition, or drop weapons for one of your mates.
