Welcome to Wasteland Half-Life!

Wasteland Half-Life (WHL for short) is a multiplayer mod based in a shattered world. Nuclear fire has scarred the earth and the survivors fight over the scraps of what was once their civilization. Some have formed gangs and tribes to better survive the harsh world their great-grandparents left them, while some have waited in sealed underground Vaults for the radiation, viruses, and mutagens unleashed so many years ago to fade.

Inspired by such varied sources as Fallout 1 and 2, the Mad Max movies, John Woo's films, and even medieval Europe, Wasteland Half-Life brings fast-paced, down-and-dirty action to an genre whose potential for violent conflict has been very overlooked.

Basic Play

The style of play hasn't changed much from Beta 1 - you still pick your character and starting equipment and can change that at any time using the "changeclass" command. changes will take place on your next respawn.

Before jumping into the fray, you'll want to configure your controls, choose a player name (nothing says "Newbie" like a player named "Player"), etc. Don't worry about your player model, that comes when you get into the game. WHL models use additional animations, so default Half-Life player models just won't work, and you'll look silly.

Once you've connected, you're stuck in mid-air and are faced with choices - a menu to be exact. The "slot" number keys (1-9 across the top of the keyboard) choose items from the menu. Make sure you assigned slots 6-9 in your Controls configuration! You'll be asked to choose a character and equipment.

When you've finished your selection, you're equipped and you drop into the game. The only gameplay mode supported in Beta 2.0 is DEATHMATCH. Kill or be killed! Teamplay and scenarios are being refined and will appear in Beta 2.5, which (with luck) won't be anywhere near as daunting a download as Beta 2 was.

Akimbo Weapons: Akimbo combinations (using a weapon in each hand) are controlled via the 'cycle' key (bindable via the 'controls' menu in Half-Life). Hitting the cycle key will cycle (aptly named, huh?) through each akimbo variation for the weapon you are using. Obviously, you need more than one akimbo-capable weapon to get any benefit from this. Akimbo configurations come in two basic flavors: Twin and Mixed. Twin is simply two of the SAME weapon, while Mixed is the current weapon in the right hand (+attack1 will fire the right hand) and a sawed-off shotgun in the left hand (which is used with +attack2). when you're toting Twin weapons, either attack button will fire each weapon alternately. Twin Sawed-offs work slightly different, however. Primary fire will fire one barrel at a time, while Secondary fire will fire all the currently loaded barrels.

Akimbo-capable weapons: Beretta, Colt, Desert Eagle, Sawed-off.

Aiming: The +alt1 command will toggle Aiming on and off for those weapons that use the aim function. Your view will zoom in a bit and your shots will gain accuracy at the cost of fire rate. You'll zoom back out when you switch weapons or reload. Scoped weapons can zoom in more as long as you depress the Aim button. To zoom back out with a scoped weapon, click Secondary fire.

Pistol Whipping: Currently, the Beretta, Colt, Desert Eagle, and Hunting Rifle can be used to club your enemies. Hit the Secondary Fire button to use the pistol whip.

Concerns, Feedback, and Issues
------------------------------
If you have a problem not covered here, or would like to tell us how great a job we did, drop by the WHL forums (http://pub3.ezboard.com/bwastelandhalflifeforums). That said, noone is perfect, and although we have tested WHL for stability on many different computers, we cannot in any way guarantee it's going to run for everyone. As long as you can run Half-Life in 640x480 resolution or above, WHL -should- work fine. We do not recommend running WHL with a resolution lower than 640x480.
